La Plaza Mayor

The Plaza Mayor is without doubt one of the tourist centers of the city of Madrid, is located a few meters from the Plaza de Sol, its origins date from the fifteenth century when it was formerly celebrated the main market of the town.

In 1590 the current Casa de la Panaderia was built and subsequently completed in 1619 after commissioning of Felipe III, the king whose statue is located in the center of the square.
